Just wanted to share with you a link from today’s TOI and thank you for the wonderful work you are doing at Moneylife Foundation and the efforts you are taking to increase citizens’ awareness.

My husband filed a consumer complaint in Mumbai in 2016. But before we drafted and filed the complaint, we took initial advice at a Moneylife consumer guidance session (Mr A V Shenoy). Do thank him on our behalf. Here is the Times of India Article.

My husband retired from IIT Bombay this year and is now Visiting Professor at IIT Dharwad in Karnataka. So we have now moved to Dharwad. I will be able to watch your informative sessions on You Tube.

As per your suggestion I filled a case against “Omnitech Infosolutions” for “Settlement of Dues”.

You can recall that Omnitech Infosolution is also reported by Moneylife for defaulting payments of “Corporte FD”. Though I have not recived my dues yet but I am hopeful that I may receive it in near future.

I had the privilege of being invited to the seminar ‘Safe and Smart Savings to take care of your Retirement Years’ hosted at your Office by Ms Sucheta Dalal and Mr Debashish Basu on 29th May 2015.

It was a sterling event for me. Since then, I sort of went into hibernation or cold storage as I am not on the net always and regularly !!!

I am 67 and do not give up easily and I remember one clear message from Ms Sucheta Dalal that day. That the elderly must vent their views and opinions by writing continuously if they wish to be heard and for policies and laws to be enacted and put into place . And in India the so called SENIOR CITIZENS lobby is a meagre 5 to 6% and hence will never be heard. Abroad, it is a vibrant and strong 70% and more .

What has catalyzed me into action is when I attended an event on WORLD ELDERS DAY on 1st October 2015 at TISS, Deonar, Mumbai when they discussed POSITIVE AGING and ELDER POWER. And our tribe is growing and swelling at an alarming and challenging rate . And I need to do more and by getting together, the FORCE then grows with you! [ quoting STAR WARS ]

Ms Sucheta Dalal will always be busy what with her seminar in Chennai on 7th November 2015. To cut matters short, if you will be organizing seminars for SENIOR CITIZENS in future, please do keep me in the loop and in the know.

There are many GREY areas like housing , wills , insurance , medicals , counselling , what SENIOR CITIZENS must know and there rights towards the framing of policies and this will gain great prominence and importance as the so called GREY FORCE grows and finds its growth stunted by its own unplanned growth!

Please inform me of further planned events and where I can be of assistance.

It will at least keep my grey cells alive and kicking!

I was travelling and couldn’t convey my words on email to deeply thank you and your team helping me to get this credit fraud complaint resolved.

After disappointment of sending 50+ emails, 15+ Customer service calls and 6+ communication with Axisbank branch, filling dispute forms, insurance claim forms, police & cybercell visit, 60 days of time, etc for the resolution. But it seemed that there would be no satisfactory reply. On top of this received 15+ calls and 30+ messages for payment of money and everyone promising to get back to their seniors with escalation.

Hadn’t it been Moneylife Foundation’s help, I felt all doors closed.

I am very grateful for the time and efforts you and your team have put into taking my request and giving such importance, contacting personnel and following up to a complaint placed for a service with a third party.

Sir/Madam,
At the outset I would like to thank you and congratulate for the wonderful platfor ‘Moneylife Foundation’ and ‘Moneylife Magazine’. It is for this wonderful organisation that common investors like me are able to survive in the ocean of ‘capital markets’.

Team Moneylife under the leadership of Madam Sucheta Dalal and Shri Debashis Basu are doing ‘service par excellence’ for the masses. Perhaps, this is only one platform in the country that strives for the common investors and consumers. Whether it be various programmes or workshop, ‘Team Moneylife’ has always strived and struggled to stand for the rights and welfare of the common people. I find myself lucky to be part of this association and to be a staunch ‘Moneylifer’. Maybe I should be more active in helping ‘Moneylife team’ to be able to qualify as ‘Moneylife Karyakarta’.

With my association, I have had learned many things. ‘Moneylife’ created major awareness on numerous issues related to finance, consumer rights, life, health etc. In fact, the peace in my ‘money life’ (finance life) is only and only beacause of Moneylife. It created major awareness in terms of saving, investing in right avenues. Till date, I always make it a point to attend maximum number of events at the foundation. I have learned so many things varing across various topics viz. Investing, Consumer rights, life etc. I always insist my friends to attend them.

Reading the magazine is always a treat, in fact I am always keen on every issue and make it a point to read it carefully. ‘Moneylife’ is a very informative magazine which presents the real picture of the Capital Markets and other aspects which no other ‘MSM’ house would dare to do. Be it issue of ‘Credit Score’ ‘Debt Markets’ ‘Stock Selection Method’, I could understand them conceptually which improved my perception and vision about them. I understood the concept of bonds by reading te issue. I have even enjoyed attending every workshop on ‘investing’. Learning the concept of “PE Bond’, ‘Gilt’ returns charts created great amount of awareness in me. I wish and request if we can have some more such workshops in the future. I may also suggest that team ‘Moneylife’ should conduct such ‘paid’ workshops as such knowledge in public interest is no available anywhere. Let people value it and realise it’s importance.

A common investor could never imagine to have access to so much of information which is so systematic, conceptual and in depth. It is only because of Moneylife that common man has awareness and feels empowered. Else the markets are full of sharks and faulty products. Be it Stock Letter or MSSN initiative, it has played a major role in my ‘money life’. It is because these wonderful products that my awareness about various stock, financial products exists else it was ‘zero’. The latest ‘credit helpline’ has taken MLF to new heights.

Logging into ‘moneylife.in’ a couple of times in a day is a habitual practice for me. I tend to rely on Moneylife for my ‘news knowledge’ especially the daily and weekly market report and various stories which is never seen in ‘MSM’.

No amount of praise words can be enough to appreciate the work of ‘MONEYLIFE’, I take a bow for great work done by the entire team. ‘Moneylife team’ has created considerable amount of awareness among common investors and make them empowered which no government can ever do. Reading Moneylife Magazine, Stock Letter, MSSN, Market Reports or attending any Event is a pleasure. I thank ‘Moneylife’ for all, in fact it’s doing great service to society for public welfare. I always spread the word about ‘Moneylife’ wherever I go.

I am extremely pleased to read the contents of your Newsletter for Oct 2014 stating that many new steps have been taken by Moneylife Foundation to help people in financial distress. You are already rendering a yeoman service to this sector by providing a powerful platform to the people who are suffering because of high-handedness of managements of certain companies who collect money from senior citizens and others by appointing marketing experts and other companies to generate deposits for them and thereafter the company managements neither refund the principal amounts nor pay interest after maturity of such deposits.

Some time ago, I approached Moneylife Foundation to help me to withdraw from an insurance policy from ICICI Prudential which had been mis sold to me (I am 76 years old) and for which I would have to continue paying the premiums for several years. After giving the details to Sucheta Dalal the matter was promptly taken up by her with ICICI Prudential and I was able to exit from the policy. Without the help of Moneylife Foundation it would not have been possible for me to do so as I was not getting a satisfactory answer to the queries I had raised with ICICI Prudential.

I am grateful to Moneylife Foundation for the help received, as also for the seminars I have attended which have enabled me to understand the world of investments much better, particularly considering the fact that even large companies have indulged in misleading advertising and selling. Moneylife magazine has not hesitated to take on even the big names in business as well as SEBI and other institutions, when required to do so.

Kudos to them for what is clearly a thankless task.

Dear Sucheta,

Delighted to see that you and Debashish received the M.R. Pai Award. Nobody deserved it better than Moneylife and you. Every time I read your magazine, I keep thinking how it goes far beyond finance and markets to make readers savvy consumers as well.

Several subject ideas in Reader’s Digest have come from Moneylife’s stories. The best example was our recent “Mangelal Sharma and the Miss-sold Mutual Fund”, which was extremely popular with our readers. It got reprinted in new book on banking as well as in another magazine. Moneylife and Viresh are mentioned in it. I see many changes in Indian banking and other rules too, after you’ve brought them up in your stories. For example, the recent one where customers are not penalized for dormant accounts (a point we also made in our Mangelal story).

Mr M.R. Pai was a good senior friend of mine. We got close in the mid-1990s after I spent much time with him doing a story on his life and work for the Digest.

Dear Sir Madam,

I have contacted your office regarding 2 issues:

1.) Complaint against Shriram City Union Finance Ltd for not following proper
procedures in processing and disbursal of Mortgage Loan.
2.) Complaint against Union Bank ofIndia for wrongfully charging me penal interest of
Rs. 10,644/- towards foreclosure of Mortgage Loan.
I would like to inform you that both the issues have been resolved only because of the guidance being provided by Shri Gopalkrishnanji, Financial Counsellor. I met him almost 5 to 6 times related to the above 2 issues and he had given me his valuable advice which has helped me in getting 2 important documents such as :-
a) List of Documents and b) Copy of Mortgage Loan Agreement from Shriram City Union Finance Ltd as complaint was escalated to Department of Non-Banking Services, RBI. Shriram City Union Finance Ltd has given me the above 2 documents after a long wait of 5 months only after the intervention of RBI Authorities.
Also, Union Bank of India, Duncan Road Branch, Mumbai – 400008 has credited my SB AlC with them in cash of Rs. 10,644/- which they have illegally collected from me towards penal interest as the matter was escalated to Banking Ombudsman, RBI. The bank hascontacted me for the settlement almost after 6 months.
The above resolutions wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Shri Gopalkrishnanji so I am offering my gratitude to him and also to Moneylife Foundation which has given a very good platform through its office which is very helpful to aggrieved customers like me. May God Bless Shri Gopalkrishnanji with healthy and a long life.
I would also request Moneylife Foundation to publish these 2 success stories in its Newsletter which will create awareness amongst the fellow citizens to fight the menace of worst customer service from Financial Institutions such as Banks & NBFCs.

Thank you for your response advising me to refer my grievance on the subject to your Legal Resource Centre for appropriate advice. I was very happy to have a phone call from the Chief Counsellor, Mr. M.R. Gopalakrishnan today.

Since the Banking Ombudsman, on the basis of clarifications given by ING Vysya Bank Officers closed my case without even giving me an opportunity to approach the Appellate Authority and instead advised me to approach the Civil Court, the advice given by Mr. Gopalakrishnan to lodge a fresh complaint with the CEO / MD of ING Vysya Bank, and subsequently to RBI Governor (if need be), lifted my spirit.

I really appreciated Mr Gopalakrishnan’s candid views on the prevailing unethical practices at some banks, which go mostly unnoticed.

Thank you Mr Gopalakrishnan and thank you Moneylife for the laudable free advice to the customers on many financial and/or other matters.

I read most of your articles and want to congratulate you for giving readers a different perspective than what the corporate media would have us believe. Your articles are well researched and very well balanced.

If you recall, you had invited me to deliver a talk at Moneylife about my experiences and books. It was a great experience for me.

I have actually written 3 more books since and they are doing rather well. ‘Manat’ on psychology with 35000 copies sold in 2 years, ‘Musafir’ -my autobiography with 45000 copies sold in 14 months and ‘Ganiti’ on Mathematics is about to cross 20000 in just 4 months. These numbers may look very small compared to the sales figures of some of the books in English, but, in Marathi, they are very very high indeed!

I would have loved to present these to you if you were a Marathi reader.

Congratulations on the success of reaching out to savers and educating them the finances through your highly reputed organisation—Moneylife Foundation. My husband persuaded me to read Moneylife magazines to make me aware of day to day financial frauds and how to take investment decisions. I saw him politely refuse the HDFC Bank officials who were trying to lure him to invest in their scheme. Before they could convince him to invest my husband told them very clearly about the drawbacks in the scheme which they had not mentioned and they were surprised about the same. This is an excellent move from MoneyLife. There does not seem to be any check either by the RBI or SEBI on such practices and the banks fail to tell savers whether the products in question have the approval from SEBI.
