MCA has responded to Moneylife Foundation’s survey and memorandum of 1,500 plus complaints by asking the SFIO to examine non-payment of FDs by Helios & Matheson. In case of Jaiprakash Associates, Unitech and Plethico, the MCA has asked ROC to examine findings from the Moneylife Foundation

Reliance Life refunds Rs3 lakh to an illiterate old widow

Reliance Life’s goodwill gesture of refunding Rs3 lakh to an illiterate widow, having a handicapped son, made a wonderful New Year gift. The fund value of her ULIP was only Rs1 lakh. The case which was taken to the insurer on humanitarian grounds was solved in a couple of days, thanks to Moneylife.

Govt says Aadhaar authentication not mandatory for banks

Replying to a question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on behalf of several activists and consumer organisations, the ministry of finance said RBI has set aside its diktat making Aadhaar-based authentication mandatory.

Now, track the status of your passport application on your smartphone!

Moneylife’s consistent campaign since March 2013, has led to a series of customer-friendly initiatives by MEA and TCS; the latest is with mobile technology. The mPassport Seva app provides a wide variety of services such as status tracking, locating a passport office and other general information.

Aadhaar enabled ATMs: Banks oppose RBI move citing huge cost

The Centre’s overarching agenda to make Aadhaar a success by forcing people to withdraw money from ATMs under a diktat from RBI is being opposed by bankers due to huge cost involved. Several consumer activists and NGO, including Moneylife Foundation also sent a memorandum to RBI governor on the same issue.

I-T dept asks officials to use official email IDs

Moneylife had raised the issue of I-T officials sending mails to taxpayers using IDs from free email service providers like Gmail and Yahoo!. Following this, email IDs would henceforth use only official email IDs for official communication.

SEBI issues show cause notice to HSBC for cheating Suchitra Krishnamoorthi

Market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has issued a show cause notice to HSBC for allegedly using fraudulent and unfair trade practices with its client, singer and actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. This case was first exposed by Moneylife way back in April in 2012.

RBI asks High Mark exec chairman Anil Pandya to step down

Following several complaints and reports by Moneylife, the Reserve Bank is understood to have directed Prof Dr Anil Pandya to step down as executive chairman of High Mark, the troubled and cash strapped credit bureau.

Tata AIA Life refunds Rs2.5 lakh after Moneylife proved contradictory policy terms

After paying annual premium of Rs50,000 for five years, Mr Saxena’s policy was auto surrendered as the fund value was only Rs33,759. Intervention by Moneylife Foundation Insurance Helpline ensured that Tata AIA returned the full premium of five years. Find out how underwriting error was proved.

Moneylife Impact: TCS swings into action to ease some difficulties faced by Pune passport applicants

Exactly a week after activists meeting with TCS top brass, one seasoned verification officer has been appointed for at Counter A, the online appointment period is extended to one week and there are prominent display boards that provides list of documents required for a passport. One display also warns agents and touts against malpractices.

For the first time, investors of scores of portfolio management schemes run by banks and brokers will be able to access information on their performance and track-record on the SEBI website, thanks to Moneylife tireless campaigning.

A strong campaign by Moneylife through its website and its social media properties gets quick justice for a 79-year old man with an ailing wife. IndusInd Bank officials had deceitfully persuaded him break his fixed deposit with the bank and invest in a wrong product.

Moneylife Insurance Victory: Metlife returns Rs25,000 to policyholder after Moneylife found an error

PNB Metlife has returned Rs25,000 to the correct policyholder to make up for their error in earlier refund to wrong policyholder, following an article in Moneylife on 2nd May.

Moneylife Insurance Victory: Arvind Injamuri was mis-sold Rs12 lakh by Reliance. Moneylife took up his case, and won

Reliance Life Insurance had mis-sold ULIPs worth Rs12 lakh. Moneylife had taken up the issue with IRDA and written cover story on it. Justice is served with return of investment along with Rs1.75 lakh interest, which is about 7.5% per annum
